Empowering underprivileged children
This free residential Gurmat Institution was founded in 1980
Origins
This free residential Gurmat Instituition was founded in 1980 at the instance of late S Hukam Singh, (then President of Kendri Sri Gur Singh Sabha). S Hukam Singh earlier was speaker of the Parliament and later Governor of Rajasthan.
The idea behind this venture was to look after needy and neglected Sikh children and try to imbibe in them the spirit of Sikh Religion's basic principles viz:-
1. Naam Japna (Remembering and devotion to God)
2. Dharam di Kirat Karni (Earning one's living through honest means)
3. Wand Chakhna (Sharing your earnings with other needy)
Students
Presently there are 150 young needy children who live on the premises and the entire expenditure on their food, clothing, Gurmat-education, academic and technical / professional education is borne by the Institution.
We have been fortunate enough to receive assistance from various quarters to sustain the financial expenses involved.
The daily routine of the students starts at Amrit Vela (early morning) with Naam - Simran, Shabad Kirtan, etc in the Kender's Gurdwara. After breakfast regular classes of Gurmat Sangeet, Gurbani recitation, Sikh Philosophy, Sikh History are held. Academic classes prepare the student for studies upto M.A, Religion. Technical courses consist of training in computer application, typing, cutting, tailoring and driving.
